After decades away from music following Xmal Deutschland's cult success on labels like 4AD, Anja Huwe returns with Codes, a collaboration born from a year-and-a-half creative partnership with longtime friend Mona Mur in Berlin, featuring Manuela Rickers' signature guitar work and mastering by Jon Caffery. Inspired by the diary of a WWII partisan, the album explores the human experience under extreme circumstances—weaving themes of forest, fear, loss, and violence alongside beauty, longing, and survival through poetic, synthesized soundscapes that feel both claustrophobic and anticipatory.
