With That’s the Way It Goes, French coldwave outfit Closed Mouth deliver their eighth physical release since 2019, continuing an unusually prolific and sharply focused body of work. Rooted firmly in cold wave, post-punk, and gothic tradition, the project has earned a reputation for emotional intensity and disciplined minimalism, qualities that remain central here.

This new album subtly expands the palette. Synthesizers play a more prominent role, sharpening the rhythms and lending a darker, more immediate pulse to the songs.
