A pivotal release in the Front Line Assembly catalog, Millennium finds Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber detonating their electro-industrial blueprint and rebuilding it with crushing metallic force. Released in 1994, the album marked a decisive shift toward industrial metal, layering programmed rhythms and dystopian atmospheres with sampled and live guitar riffs, including early contributions from Devin Townsend. Still anchored in the band's cold, cybernetic sequencing, Millennium pushes into heavier terrain: looped Pantera and Metallica-derived guitar fragments collide with mechanized beats, hip-hop inflections surface on "Victim of a Criminal," and only "This Faith" nods back to their purist electro-industrial roots. The result is a dense, abrasive hybrid, part club-driven EBM and part riff-laden industrial assault, capturing a moment when the genre itself was mutating. Initially divisive, Millennium has since become a cult cornerstone, bridging the gap between classic Wax Trax-era electronics and the heavier crossover sound that would define the mid-90s.
