Estranged Icon is the UK industrial/post-punk collective Inertia’s 14th studio album, marking over three decades of sonic evolution led by Reza Udhin (formerly of Killing Joke). The record opens with the synth-laden “New Format,” featuring Matt Howden’s haunting violin, and moves into “Scowl,” a pounding industrial anthem highlighted by fiery guitar contributions from KMFDM/PIG’s Steve White and Nick Bayford. Elsewhere, the collaborative track “Heartbeat,” with This Morn’ Omina, punctuates the album with a vibrant electronic pulse and stirring vocals. With contributions from Alexys B on backing vocals, and the signature balance of darkwave atmospheres and aggressive industrial drive, Estranged Icon delivers a compelling journey of mood, tension, and dynamic songwriting, cementing Inertia’s reputation as “the best and most aggressive band in London,” in the words of Gary Numan.
